Census and the Senseless...
It's census time once again, and the government has sent out letters
advising everyone they will be receiving a census form in the mail,
only to be followed up with a postcard informing you that you have
received a census form in the mail. Only the Federal government can
manufacture so many opportunities to waste taxpayer dollars. Perhaps
the census form mailing alone would have been enough?! I notice the
first letter states 'Results from the 2010 Census will be used to help
each community get its fair share of government funds for highways,
schools, health facilities, and many other programs you and your
neighbors need.' The census form message states 'That money is
used for services for children and the elderly, roads, and many other
local needs'. Then I see them asking me questions on the census form
that have nothing to do with counting the number of people in the
country by state, in order to get our 'fair share'. They seem to go out
of their way to assure us this information will be held in the strictest of
confidence. And for months I have seen the government spending
more taxpayer money advertising for census workers. Last I checked,
there are over 20 million unemployed people in the U.S., many
collecting government unemployment checks. Hmmm, let me think...
I've got it! Maybe we can complete the census without additional
spending by hiring unemployed people as census workers and
stopping their unemployment checks until the census work is done.
Anyone who refuses to perform the census work obviously doesn't
want to work and therefore no longer qualifies for an unemployment
check. As for the census form questions that have nothing to do with
counting Americans, people can simply answer the first two questions
regarding number of people at this address, and leave it at that. Even
with the claim that the information will be kept confidential, there is no
legitimate Constitutional justification for requesting the information.
Regarding states or communities getting your 'fair share', excuse me,
but the only spending item mentioned that's even allowed by the
Constitution is highways and roads. Maybe if the Feds stopped taxing
Americans for unconstitutional spending, we wouldn't need to fight
with other states to get our 'fair share'. Amazing that the Feds no
longer even try to hide the fact that they shamelessly intrude in areas
that the Constitution reserves 'to the States respectively, or to the
people' (10th Amendment). In fact, the primary reason for the census
is to determine State representation in the House. And just for the
record, these are not 'government funds', this is our own money being
unfairly redistributed by the Feds.
· If each American counts as 'one', why would the government ask
about our sex, ethnic origin, race, etc. when counting us?
· Do some groups count more than others?
· Perhaps politicians want to make it easier to gerrymander voting
districts, or maybe organize government-sponsored rallies that cater
to 'at-risk' constituents?
· And why won't the government demand that people receiving
unemployment checks accept temporary employment as census
